This 1970 edition California Achievement Test is for students entering grades 2 through 12. It covers the following subject areas: Reading (vocabulary and comprehension), Mathematics (computation and concepts & problems), and Language (mechanics, usage & structure, and spelling). The test for entering grade 2 also includes Auding.

This service includes all the necessary materials and instructions for administering the test. * Please note that the California Achievement Test has a 1 year expiration date.
Composite Scoring:
Christian Liberty has added the composite score option in response to some state and local school requirements.** This score is calculated from the raw scores of the individual sections of the California Achievement Test.
Families who request a composite score will receive (in addition to the individual results provided for the seven subject areas) composite score results in raw score, percentile, and stanine rank formats. A grade equivalent composite score is not available.
To include a composite score with your test results, simply check the "Composite Scoring" option.
** Christian Liberty does not require a composite score for enrollment into its homeschool academy.
Recommendation Service:
If you are unsure which curriculum materials to choose based on the achievement test scores, Christian Liberty offers two different curriculum recommendation services to provide guidance in this area:
Basic Service – provides a subject-by-subject listing of recommended curriculum materials (from those offered through Christian Liberty) based solely on the CAT scores. Premium Service – currently unavailable |
Both services can take a few business days to complete and may delay the arrival of your test scores.
After testing is completed:
If you decide to enroll your student into the Christian Liberty Academy School System (CLASS) within six months after receiving the test results, the cost of the test will be deducted from your student's tuition fee. However, if you enroll your student in a grade level using a different test than the one he or she originally took, the test cost will not be deducted from your student's tuition fee.

Cat Testing for my Home Schoolers
I have always been pleased with this testing. It does very well at challenging as well as pointing out your child/s strengthens and weak areas in academics.

Good Test
I think that it is good basic test.

Very descent testing content that posed a good challenge
Okay, 2 years ago was our first year homeschooling and after taking the Terra Nova Survey (test now discontinued) with our homeschool network my second grader said at the end of many days of testing at the dinner table, "Mom, I'm sorry. I don't want to be mean, but that test (Terra Nova) was dumb." And as a mom who could not preview the test before purchasing or administering, I have to say yes the Terra Nova was dumb...at a minimum the reading comprehension stories were pointless. The Christian Liberty CAT 1970, however, I glanced at ahead of time to return or administer and it satisfied my desire to improve our homeschool. My son was challenged and learned real and quality information through reading and applying his knowledge as well as test taking methods all in the process of taking the CL CAT 1970. While it was a challenge for him, his scores are acceptable and he feels good about the content of the test. He says his end of grade exam and his scores are respectable. He often finished right at the timer and some modules he refused to finish even before the timer went off, because he was mentally exhausted, but said he has done the best he can. Now that's a solid testing experience! Grading time was within reason especially when I submitted during expected high volume. Thank you Christian Liberty.

great tests
Great tests to fulfill our states homeschooling requirement for standardized testing.

Visually hard on the eyes
While I found the content to be good, the paper quality and the yellow ink made it quite difficult for my son. It would be nice if they could make the ink darker or just use a different color which would stand out better. We totally missed some of the print because it was so light. As homeschoolers, my kids didn't understand some of the questions. One was related to school, and showed a picture of a school... to my 6 year old, it looked like a building, not a school, so I know he got that one wrong. Im sure we will use CL again, despite the small issues I had.

highly recommended!
I searched high and low on the web for a simple and effective test we could administer at home and which satisfies the requirements of our state test. It's the first year we are testing our daughter so we opted for the paper test rather than the online one - the option to use paper instead of online is really helpful. This 1970 CAT test is an answer to prayer and we're most grateful to the Lord that Christian Liberty provides this unique offering to the homeschooling community - it's straightforward, easy to administer, aligned with biblical teaching, elegantly designed, proven, and effective in its measurement of achievement. The test arrived well packaged and protected and we were able to complete it on one Saturday. Instruction to administer the test is very clear. This test and Christian Liberty's service really have helped take one important load off my and my wife's shoulder in homeschooling and as a homeschooling parent I'm sure you can appreciate what that means. I prayed and will continue to pray that the Psalm 91 protection and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ will be upon Christian Liberty and this test so that the test can continue to be available for many years to come. Please, if you are a user of this test, join me in praying for protection and provision for Christian Liberty and this test as you pray for ongoing protection and provision of your other homeschooling material/curriculum suppliers. Thank you and God bless, hope this review is useful to you.

Number one choice.
I really like this test. I find it very easy to understand and I feel as though most of it is common sense. Which there is also a down side. I am a average A&B student but I find this test easy. So I think anyone would be able to use it and understand it. I would recommend it and in fact I have to my friends.
