Composite Scoring:
Christian Liberty has added the composite score option in response to some state and local school requirements.** This score is calculated from the raw scores of the individual sections of the California Achievement Test.
Families who request a composite score will receive (in addition to the individual results provided for the seven subject areas) composite score results in raw score, percentile, and stanine rank formats. A grade equivalent composite score is not available.
To include a composite score with your test results, simply check the "Composite Scoring" option.
What is Composite Scoring?
** Christian Liberty does not require a composite score for enrollment into its homeschool academy.
Recommendation Service:
If you are unsure which curriculum materials to choose based on the achievement test scores, Christian Liberty offers two different curriculum recommendation services to provide guidance in this area:
Basic Service – provides a subject-by-subject listing of recommended curriculum materials (from those offered through Christian Liberty) based solely on the CAT scores. Premium Service – currently unavailable |
Both services can take a few business days to complete.
After testing is completed:
If you decide to enroll your student into the Christian Liberty Academy School System (CLASS) within six months after receiving the test results, the cost of the test will be deducted from your student's tuition fee. However, if you enroll your student in a grade level using a different test than the one he or she originally took, the test cost will not be deducted from your student's tuition fee.

Multiple problems
This test should have been formatted so that the entire question and answer was in view on the screen without scrolling. My 9yr old had to scroll down for the answers, after reading the questions, for almost every question. Plus it is seen as a window within a window - so be sure to use the correct scroll bar - confusing and unnecessary. That should not be, esp with a timed test! Also, the test froze during the testing about three times. If you are offering this service, your technology should be able to support it.

different format
We did the online testing last year and this year the way it was formatted was different. We did not like it as well, the test froze a few times on my one child and she had to do the whole section over, that was very frustrating!! It seemed like the screen was smaller where the test questions were and made it difficult to navigate. Going back to paper testing next year.

Easy to use for our first year
This was our first year homeschooling and it happen to be a year that our state required a standardized test to be given. We went with the online CAT option. I liked that the scored were available immediately. That way we could do the test much later in our year after we had covered more topics. The entire buying and administering process was very smooth. I even accidentally locked us out of a section while my daughter was taking the test, but with one phone call and a few minutes all was well again. We will most likely use this test again and I would recommend it to anyone.

Easy
The site was easy to use. My 8 year old (3rd grade) and 10 year old (5th grade) had no problems navigating the site. My kids didn't like that the test was timed, but they really liked that they instantly received a score at the end. Overall, the experience was good.

Easy Testing Service
We have used this test in the past, but I love the format this year. My kids loved seeing the results as they completed their sections. It gave them the confidence to keep doing their best. We had a glitch on both tests, where results weren't being posted and we got error messages every time we clicked on anything. But the customer service was great and got it all straightened out.

Pros and cons from 7th, 6th, and 4th grader
Everyone liked doing the test at home. My two younger took turns with sections so we had a lot of logging in and out. The cost is great, especially when you have a large family to test each year. We had trouble with the test freezing while in Internet Explorer. This was lessened when we switched to Chrome but still happened occasionally. The timer stopped too so the kids didn't lose time but they were frustrated. The biggest complaint was that there was no way to ask questions or get clarification. One series of questions was confusing and I told them to just guess - since I didn't have access to answers, I didn't know what the test was looking for. As a parent/teacher, I was let down by the lack of feedback. Test scores are all I need for the state and it's good to see their grade level and percentile. But when it says they scored 17 out of 25 for punctuation, it would be nice to see what specifically they missed. Do they know how to use a period and question mark but don't understand quote marks or apostrophe? I don't know because the results don't tell me and I didn't watch them take the test. We just bought the test, and no analysis/grade placement help so maybe that's why. Also, for some reason, my middle child's score for spelling didn't report in my email, although it was available online. All in all, we liked the test and we'll possibly use it again next year.

Not great
We were all set to test on a Monday morning, but were very disappointed with the format of the online test when using a laptop. Our daughter had to scroll up and down and the formatting (especially for reading questions) was very difficult to decipher. Then, over an hour into testing, both of our kids (one on a laptop and one on a desktop) had error messages pop up on their screens. The tests had frozen with "Database errors." I called customer service, and the woman I spoke with was very helpful and apologetic. The company sent paper tests to us, and we are testing with them today. It has been unfortunate to be testing a week after we intended to, and to have our kids waiting a week with more school work on the horizon. In the grand scheme of things, these are small issues. But, I encouraged Christian Liberty to have a disclaimer about these potential issues on the website, so that families like ours could have opted for paper test from the beginning.

Great testing service
This is the easiest and quickest testing service that I have found. There is no need to wait for the test to come in the mail, and send it back in and wait again. The test is timed for you and your student can do it right away. The tests are scored immediately. So must easier. There is no need to go back to doing it the other way!

convenient test- great customer service
I would like to give the test 5 stars, but we had a major glitch with testing this year when the test froze in the middle of timed testing. We were unable to finish testing on the day of our first attempt. However, the customer service was wonderful and worked hard through several phone conversations to correct the issue. We were able to complete the test on the next day with no complications. Easy to administer, good value for a tight budget, immediate results and very good service mean that we will use this testing service again!
