Serving the Lord in a Challenging State

Serving the Lord in a Challenging State

Posted by Calvin Lindstrom on 06/27/2023

In God’s Providence, our church and ministry have served in the state of Illinois for nearly 60 years. Despite the cost and very high taxes, the Lord has allowed our ministry to operate with very little restriction or government interference.

The state of Illinois is definitely changing. A legal revolution has been taking place. Several years ago, the state passed legislation forbidding licensed counselors to try to encourage anyone under 18 years to turn from homosexual desires. Then the state expanded state support of abortion. Unfortunately Illinois is becoming the center for abortion in the entire midwest.

This was still not enough so new legislation was passed removing essentially all restrictions from abortion up to the point of birth. Adding to the confusion the state has legalized recreational marijuana in recent years.

And about four years ago the governor of our state signed legislation mandating new instruction be given to all public school students. This instruction has been in place now for three years.

As Laurie Higgins describes it: “All children ages 5-18 in public schools must be taught about the deviant sexual proclivities of men and women who have made some significant cultural contributions. Well, not all deviant sexual proclivities are included. Only the deviant sexual proclivities currently and publicly approved by homosexuals and cross-sex pretenders will be included—for now.”

What is going on here?

About 50 years ago, R. J. Rushdoony wrote in The Institutes of Biblical Law on the religious nature of law which includes education.

1) Law is in every culture religious.

2) The source of law is the god of that society.

3) When laws change what is taking place is a change in religion.

4) You can’t get rid of religion in any society.

5) There can be no tolerance in a law system for another religion.

The religion of humanism dominates the state of Illinois and lawmakers are demanding that all children be educated in a way that honors this religion.

I share what is taking place in Illinois not because we are alone in this legal revolution but as an example. Even in more conservative states, wicked things are being taught to children. It is well passed the time that Christian parents recognize what is going on and make sure that they provide their children an education that honors the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us not be silent as we speak God’s truth. And we must also keep in mind the promises of our Lord.

Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20

He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
