Course Description
This history course begins around AD 300 with the rise of Constantine from Roman soldier to the first Christian Emperor and ends in the 1500s with the life of the Protestant Reformer, John Calvin. We will study the fall of Rome in 410 and trace from it the unfolding of major historical events throughout the middle ages and the influential figures that shaped them. Discussions will include: Theodosius the Great, Justinian the Great, Muhammad (and the emergence of Islam), Charlemagne (aka the “Father of Europe”), Rollo the Viking, Genghis Khan, Thomas Aquinas, the Medici family, and Martin Luther.
