When my son first read "King Solomon's Mines" in high school, he decided that Indiana Jones of "The Raiders of the Lost Ark" fame was a whimp. These H. Rider Haggard novels are full of thrilling adventure, and men being men and women being women. There is some serious sword play, so be aware if that is something you would find bothersome. True courage is portrayed, along with Christian ideals. The historical times and settings are always interesting, and the action is always attention grabbing and exciting. I was so happy to have my young men read these novels, and they enjoyed the experience immensely. The series has grown by 3 books since my sons used them, and these additions are just as thrilling as the first offerings.
