Christian Education Today

A brief message from Pastor Calvin Lindstrom, Head of Christian Liberty Press:

There are many reasons why people choose to teach their children at home. Some do so for the flexibility to incorporate other activities. Others include concerns over politically correct curriculum or the threat of violence. While there are a number of good reasons to home school children, we must be mindful to remember the best reason.

The most important reason to teach our children at home is that it is the best way to follow the command of God's Word to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. If we forget this during our homeschooling endeavors, we can easily become discouraged—and even quit. I know from personal experience that teaching children at home is both a great blessing and a great challenge. We do it, not because it is easy, but because we believe this is what the Lord has called us to do.

Focusing on this primary reason for home schooling will help you deal with the daily challenges, including those who might even oppose what you are doing. In addition, by keeping God's command forefront in our minds, we are reminded that we can only fulfill His call by His grace. There is no room for pride or strength in ourselves. Raising our children in the nurture and admonition of the the Lord Jesus Christ can only be done through Him.

Make sure you are depending fully on the Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit as you teach and train your children. In so doing, you can take comfort in that He will be right along side you, working in their lives, too.
